Former Liverpool star Diaz swaps pitch for new surprise career

Luis Diaz has taken fans completely by surprise and much like one of his trademark bursts down the wing, he’s done it with style.

Just six months after waving goodbye to Liverpool and settling into life with Bayern Munich, the Colombian forward has officially stepped into a brand-new arena: music.

The winger has released a heartfelt track titled La Promesa (“The Promise”), teaming up with renowned champeta artists Juanda Iriarte and Nelsen.

Champeta, rooted in Afro-Colombian rhythms from the Caribbean coast, gives Diaz the perfect channel to tell a deeply personal story.

And just as he glides past defenders, he moves seamlessly into melody, reflecting on the vow he once made to his parents: to buy them a home and help lift his family from their former struggles.

Importantly, Diaz makes it clear there’s no hidden meaning only gratitude, humility and faith. In the song, he sings: “Thank you, God, For giving me the blessing of playing football” before adding, “And being able to fulfil the promise I made to my parents And to my whole family, amen.

“I close the year with gratitude. To God, for guiding my every step, giving me strength when things got tough, and never abandoning me,” he shared the project emotionally with fans on Instagram.

“To my family, thank you from the bottom of my heart. For always being there, through the sacrifices, the difficult moments and every dream that seemed unattainable.

“None of this would be real without you… This song comes from the bottom of my heart.”

He went further still, crediting his journey, his loved ones, and the team around the project.

“Everything I am and everything I have is thanks to that. Thank you, God. Thank you, family. Thank you, Nelsen Music and Juanda Iriarte… which is called: ‘La Promesa'”.

The video weaves together the forward singing at home with highlights from every stop of his career: Barranquilla FC, Junior, Porto, Liverpool and now Bayern like a swift counter-attack flashing through memories.

He added: “Music is one of my hobbies and a way of expressing myself from the heart, something I do with great love and respect for the art.”

It’s a side project born out of passion and it connects him to supporters in a whole new way.

Yet, even while stepping into the studio, Diaz continues to deliver on the pitch. Since joining Bayern, he has been in red-hot form, scoring goals, creating chances, and driving the attack like a forward who refuses to slow down.

His Liverpool legacy remains impressive as well with trophies, key goals, and unforgettable moments etched into club history.

For the former Liverpool attacker, this isn’t a farewell to football; it’s simply another lane, another rhythm, another expression of gratitude for how far he’s come.

And as he continues sprinting through defenders in the Bundesliga while dropping heartfelt lyrics off the field.
