Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has offered words of support to Ruben Amorim after the Portuguese coach was dismissed by Manchester United, barely 14 months into his tenure.

“I cannot say anything on Chelsea or Man Utd but all I can say is Ruben [Amorim] is a top manager. I wish him all the best in the future.”

He added: “They hire you for your ideas and you are sacked for the results.
“Sometimes you need a process and need time. They [Man Utd] draw three games.
“The gaps are so small. They had a lot of absences, like we have right now, it is difficult to cope. Africa Cup [of Nations] and injuries. The reason why? To be honest, I don’t know.”
