Vinicius Junior delivered a powerful response on the pitch, earning the MVP award after an outstanding performance in Real Madrid’s emphatic victory over Monaco at the Santiago Bernabeu.
On a night where Madrid were ruthless and fluid, the Brazilian forward stood at the heart of everything good, blending flair, intensity and end product in a display that reminded everyone of his importance to the club.
From the opening exchanges, Real Madrid played with urgency and clarity, moving the ball sharply and stretching Monaco across the width of the pitch.
Vinicius thrived in that rhythm, repeatedly isolating defenders, driving at pace and creating danger from the left flank.
He supplied assists for both Kylian Mbappe and Franco Mastantuono before crowning his performance with a sensational strike in the 63rd minute, rifling the ball into the top corner to make it 5-0.
Reflecting on the performance, the Brazilian forward highlighted the team’s approach from the first whistle.
“We started very focused, moving the ball from side to side,” he said. “The moments when I can get on the ball a lot are the best for me.
“The last few days have been very difficult for all my teammates, and especially for me, because of the boos and everything that’s been said about me.”
He added: “I’m always in the spotlight, and I don’t want to be for things off the field; I want to be recognized for what I do on it and for everything I’ve done for this club.
“But the pressure is immense, and I have to live up to it every day. I won’t always be at my technical best, but I try to give my all for this shirt and for this club that has given me so much.”
Los Blancos signed the Brazil international in 2017 and officially joined in 2018 from Flamengo. He has won La Liga, two Champions League titles (scoring the winning goal in the 2022 final), and other major trophies, and has also earned top individual honors, including The Best FIFA Men’s Player (2024).
“Playing with Mbappe and all the other players we have is very easy. We have a great connection and we have to keep it up.
“At home, we need the support of the fans so that everything can get back to normal. We all want to win and, if we stick together, we’re going to do great things this season.
“It was a really special moment. I had provided a lot of assists, and all my teammates kept telling me I had to score.”
He continued: “It’s important to have the confidence of my teammates; we’re a family. When we’re at our best, we can win big things this season.”
On a night where the Bernabeu witnessed both resilience and brilliance, Vini didn’t just deliver an MVP performance; he delivered a statement.
