Bodo/Glimt shock 10-man Man City in Champions League thriller

Bodo/Glimt recorded their first-ever win in UEFA Champions League history with a shock 3-1 win over 10-man Manchester City in Tuesday’s clash.

The Cityzens headed into the clash as favourites, but were left disappointed at the final result in one of the most stunning results in the history of the competition.

Pep Guardiola’s men had suffered a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United last weekend and had hoped to bounce back with a win in Norway against the hosts who were winless in Europe after six matches.

The home side were making their debut in the competition this season and had recorded three draws and three defeats from their first six games, needing a miracle to reach the next round.

The English giants, meanwhile, were in good form having won four of their six matches, losing once and recording one draw, and needed just a win from their final two league-phase matches to be assured of a top eight finish.

However, things did not go as planned in Norway as they fell behind to two goals in the space of three first half minutes.

Kasper Hogh beat Gianluigi Donnarumma with a header in the 22nd minute, before scoring his second in the 24th minute, giving the hosts a dream first half lead.

The lead became three in the second half as Jens Hauge scored a stunning goal, before Rayan Cherki pulled one back for the shell-shocked visitors.

City’s task became even harder as Rodri was sent off for two quick bookings, as they suffered their second European defeat of the season and dropped to seventh.

They could still drop out of the top eight by the end of Wednesday’s fixtures, leaving them with a mountain to climb in their final match against Galatasaray next week.
