Ghilardi reflects on growing role as Roma and Milan share the spoils

Daniele Ghilardi cut a composed figure after Roma’s hard-fought draw with AC Milan, using his post-match interview with Sky Sport to underline both the positives of the performance and his own steady rise within the squad.

From the opening exchanges, Roma set the tempo, dictating play and carving out opportunities, even if the final reward proved elusive.

Looking back on the contest, Ghilardi felt Roma had done much of the hard work early on, even if the cutting edge arrived later than hoped.

“I agree, we created a lot,” he said. “We struggled to convert our chances and only managed to score in the second half with the penalty.

“In the first half, we could have been more clinical, but then we managed to get back into the game. A draw is not a defeat; it’s fine that way, even though winning would obviously have been better.”

As the match ebbed and flowed, Roma’s ability to stay in the contest reflected a growing maturity, something Ghilardi believes also mirrors his own development this season.

With his minutes increasing, the young defender is beginning to feel at home in the rhythm of top-level football.

“Lately, I’ve been getting more minutes. At the beginning, I was adapting, and I also had to understand what the coach was asking of me. Now I’m happy with the trust the coach is giving me.”

That trust, he explained, has been central to his progress. Training-ground work, combined with real-game exposure, has sharpened both his confidence and decision-making.

“The coach’s work and his support help a lot. Then, by playing, you gain confidence, and things keep improving.”

For Ghilardi, the draw against Milan was another step forward rather than a missed opportunity: a performance that showcased Roma’s control, resilience and belief, while also highlighting a player growing steadily into his role at the heart of the action.
