Bunny Shaw embraces Chelsea challenge as City eye WSL title boost

Manchester City striker Bunny Shaw is ready to “feel comfortable being uncomfortable” as her side prepares for a crucial Women’s Super League showdown against Chelsea on Sunday.

City currently sit nine points clear at the top of the table after a dramatic 2-1 victory over the London City Lionesses, with Shaw scoring the decisive late winner.

The opportunity to extend their lead came after Chelsea, the reigning WSL champions, fell 2-0 to Arsenal the day before, giving City the chance to strengthen their grip on the title race.

Shaw acknowledged the challenge Chelsea presents, noting their strength this season.

“Football is about challenge,” the striker said. “You want to feel comfortable being uncomfortable in order for you to get better and that’s something that I’ve always tried to do.

“I think coming up against some of the best players, it’s what you want because if you can show your talent that way.

“It’s the best way to show it, so it will be a challenge but it’s definitely one I’m looking forward to.”

Chelsea are the only side to take points off City in the WSL this season and also eliminated them from the League Cup semi-finals. A win for City on Sunday would extend their lead to 12 points with eight games remaining, while giving Arsenal and Manchester United the chance to climb the table and challenge Chelsea.

Shaw’s mindset and finishing ability could prove decisive as City look to take another step closer to their second consecutive WSL title.
