Rosenior shrugs off social media memes as Chelsea momentum builds

Liam Rosenior may be steering clear of social media, but thanks to his family, the Chelsea head coach hasn’t escaped the internet’s growing fascination with his image.

As meme culture continues to seep into football, Rosenior has become one of its latest subjects, with playful comparisons to David Brent from The Office and Will from The Inbetweeners spreading rapidly online since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Still, as the action shifts back onto the pitch and Chelsea prepare to host West Ham this Saturday, Rosenior insists the online chatter has little impact on his focus.

Instead, the spotlight remains firmly on results, with the Blues chasing a sixth win in seven matches under his guidance.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rosenior admitted that while he avoids social platforms altogether, his children make sure he’s kept up to date with the lighter side of the attention.

“It doesn’t affect me because I’m too old by about three or four years, I’m not on social media,” he told Sky Sports.

“My kids are all over it and when they see funny pictures of Will from The Inbetweeners, or David Brent, they send it to me and laugh at me. They love it!

“There was one about my dress sense where they said I had decent dress sense – my daughter thought that was hilarious. She hates my dress sense!”

As the scrutiny ramps up with his new role, Rosenior revealed he’s spoken openly with his family about adjusting to life in the spotlight, urging them to embrace the journey rather than shy away from it.

“[The scrutiny] does affect your family, I’ve had conversations with them to just enjoy what’s an amazing experience for me and hopefully they can see some really special days to come at this club.

“I don’t think about it. If I think about what people are thinking of me or saying in the media or in the press, I can miss out so many things here. There’s enough on my plate with the job I’ve got to do here.

“My motivation is just to make this club as successful as possible and to win the next game. All my energy and time is focused on my players, the team, the way we do the team meetings and the way we train.

“The other stuff is just noise, and I can’t affect it anyway – apart from by winning games of football.”

And crucially, results have backed up his calm approach. Rosenior’s opening month in charge has delivered momentum in the Premier League, while midweek success in Europe, a dramatic 3-2 win away at Napoli, secured Chelsea a top-eight finish in the Champions League league phase and a direct route into March’s round of 16.

As memes circulate and expectations rise, Rosenior continues to block out the noise, letting performances on the pitch do the talking.
