Farke hails Leeds United ‘massive’ win over Nottingham Forest

Leeds United head coach Daniel Farke has hailed his side’s performance following their impressive 3-1 win over relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest on Friday.

The Whites recorded their seventh win of the campaign and despite remaining 16th on the Premier League standings, they moved nine points clear of the drop zone with 13 games left to play.

The hosts scored twice in four first half minutes to set the tone for a convincing victory at the Elland Road in the opening clash of the weekend.

Jayden Bogle struck first in the 26th minute, before Noah Okafor added a second in the 30th minute as they took a two-goal lead into the break.

Speaking after the match, Farke expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance which was a perfect response to last weekend’s heavy defeat to Arsenal.

“I’m very proud because this was complicated game for us. First and foremost, because we had lost the last game (4-0 at home against Arsenal)”, the Leeds boss stated.

“I know it was Arsenal, but a loss always does something with the confidence and belief. It’s always difficult to respond after a loss, and this made it a difficult game.

“Second, it was, of course, a game where there was a bit more on the line, not just the three points. Sometimes during the season there’s a game that feels just a bit more important than other games.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin added a third four minutes after the break for his 10th league goal of the season.

Nottingham Forest new signing from Napoli Lorenzo Lucca then scored a late consolation for the visitors four minutes before full time as the game ended 3-1 in favour of the home side.

“And then to deliver in this way, with such a spirited performance, with our intensity to be so dominant and to play such a good football game”, Farke added.

“I think it will do a lot with our confidence, our belief, our spirit within the group. This was second to none today, and for that, it’s a massive performance and a massive win.”

Leeds United will shift their attention to their next league outing when they visit Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
