Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche cut a frustrated figure after his side fell to a 3-1 defeat against Leeds United, pinpointing defensive lapses as the decisive factor on the night.
Momentum briefly swung Forest’s way, but costly mistakes at key moments proved too much to recover from as Leeds capitalised with ruthless efficiency.
Forest appeared to steady the ship after an unsettled opening spell, yet the first goal shifted the balance sharply.
Speaking after the match, Dyche did not hide his disappointment with how his team surrendered control.
“The killer for us was giving away such an awful all three goals but the first one at such an important time,” said Dyche.
“We’d calmed everything down, we were getting back into the game. An awful goal from our point of view. A straight ball over the defence, no one likes that as a manager.
“Then they scored a second and you go, ‘right, OK, that’s not good’.”
Any hopes of a second-half response were quickly dashed as Forest conceded almost immediately after the restart, leaving little room for a comeback.
“At half-time we’ve got to rethink but then we concede really early [in the second half] and the third goal is awful as well.
“By the end we’re trying but it’s too late by then. There’s no qualms about the result. They were better than us on the night.”
The defeat leaves Forest searching for defensive solidity as they look to bounce back in their next outing.
