Liam Rosenior was full of praise for his Chelsea side after they delivered a commanding 4-0 victory over Hull City to book their place in the FA Cup fifth round, insisting the performance reflected exactly what his team stands for.
On a bitterly cold night that had all the ingredients for a potential upset, Chelsea quickly took control and never let go.
The breakthrough arrived late in the first half when Pedro Neto struck to reward sustained pressure.
Straight after the restart, the winger doubled the lead in spectacular fashion, curling directly from a corner to shift the tie firmly in Chelsea’s favour.
From there, the Blues kept their foot on the gas. Estevao Willian added a third with a composed finish before Liam Delap capped an impressive creative display by supplying Pedro Neto once more, allowing him to complete a clinical treble and put the contest beyond doubt.
As the final whistle confirmed safe passage into the next round, Rosenior reflected on a performance he felt went beyond goals and dominance, highlighting the attitude and professionalism shown across the pitch.
“I think the overall positive thing was the application of the team,” he said.
“I thought our pressing, our intensity, our work rate, and Pedro exemplified that to be honest, that’s why he scores the goals that he does.”
The Chelsea head coach also underlined the collective mindset within his squad, especially against a Hull side still pushing strongly in the Championship.
“I’m very lucky to have such talented players and what I’m really realising quickly is that they are not just good players, they’re outstanding professionals.
“I felt it was a really professional performance tonight against a very good team who are pushing for the Premier League.”
Despite the comfortable scoreline, Rosenior was keen to stress the difficulty of the task and what pleased him most about the evening.
“This was not an easy game and some of our football was everything I want to see,” he continued.
“But before that, the values of what the team stood for tonight made me a very happy coach.
With momentum building and confidence high, Chelsea now turn their attention to the next challenge, knowing that performances built on intensity, discipline and togetherness can carry them deep into the FA Cup.
