Gyökeres and Eberechi Eze both netted braces as Arsenal boosted their title hopes with a dominant 4–1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday’s North London derby.
The Gunners had recorded two consecutive draws in the Premier League and had seen their lead reduced to just two points after second-placed Manchester City.
They needed a response and got one with an emphatic victory in the North London derby, giving new Spurs coach Igor Tudor plenty to ponder after the match.
Eze, who had netted a hat-trick in the reverse fixture, opened the scoring after good work from Bukayo Saka in tge buildup.
However, Spurs were level 123 seconds later as Randal Kolo Muani dispossessed Declan Rice on the edge of the box and fired home his first Premier League goal after 19 appearances.
Guglielmo Vicario then denied Saka, as both sides went into the halftime break on level terms
It took Arsenal only two minutes to double their advantage in the second half as Gyokeres collected a pass from Jurrien Timber and produced a superb finish into the net past Vicario.
Kolo Muani scored once again for Tottenham, but the goal was ruled out for a foul on Gabriel Magalhaes in the buildup.
Vicario denied Saka once again, but there was no stopping Eze, who scored his fifth goal against Spurs this season as Arsenal took a two-goal advantage in the clash.
Gyokeres then added a fourth in stoppage-time, holding off Archie Gray before firing into the net as Arsenal sealed a memorable 4-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Gunners also clinched their fifth successive North London derby win, extending their unbeaten run in the fixture to eight matches.
They also extended their lead at the top back to five points, although they have played a game more than Man City in second.
