Carrick tips Everton-slayer Sesko for long-term success at Man United

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has thrown his full support behind Benjamin Sesko, insisting the forward will become a major figure at Old Trafford after once again delivering from the bench.

Momentum swung United’s way late on as Sesko came off the substitutes’ bench to score the decisive goal in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Everton.

The strike marked his third goal as a substitute in four appearances, a run that has helped lift United back into fourth place in the Premier League table.

Despite his red-hot impact, Sesko was again left out of the starting XI. Still, when his moment arrived, the Slovenian showed composure beyond his years, finishing a slick counter-attack to keep United’s push up the table firmly on track.

Carrick believes the striker’s mindset has been just as impressive as his finishing, especially as he continues to develop his role within a competitive attacking group.

“He’s in a good place at the moment. We’ve had some really good talks about it. Patience is one thing from him. Waiting and developing as a player here,” the gaffer said.

“He understands that. He’s going to be a big player for us for a long period of time, I’m sure of that. We’ve got to manage that. We’ve got some top forward players. He’s made a big difference for us when he is on the pitch.”

For now, Sesko’s ability to change games off the bench is proving invaluable, and if this run of decisive cameos continues, it may only be a matter of time before his influence stretches well beyond late match heroics.
