Ademola Lookman to lock horns with Rodrigo, Vinicius, Bellingham, others for global award

Super Eagles and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the prestigious 2024 Globe Soccer Awards.

Following his Ballon d’Or nomination, this award sets the former Everton forward up to compete against football giants like Jude Bellingham, Rodrigo, Vinicius Junior, and legendary names such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lookman’s outstanding season with Italian club Atalanta has propelled him onto the global stage after securing Atalanta’s first-ever UEFA Europa League title, where he scored a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen. In Serie A, Lookman’s 17 goals and 11 assists mark him as one of the league’s highest contributors for the year.

Internationally, Lookman has also made significant contributions to the Nigerian Super Eagles. In the recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, he scored six goals to lead Nigeria to the tournament final, cementing his role as a key player for the national team. Currently, he tops the goal charts for Nigeria in their quest to secure a spot in AFCON 2025.

Lookman stands as the only African on the Globe Soccer Awards shortlist. Alongside his Globe Soccer nomination, Lookman is also in the running for the African Men’s Footballer of the Year award, where he faces tough competition from compatriot William Troost-Ekong and other top African players.

The Globe Soccer Awards will take place in Dubai on December 27, organised by the Dubai Sports Council, to honour the best in the game.
