Chelsea captain Reece James has signed a new six-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2032, putting an end to any uncertainty surrounding his future.
The England right-back joined the club at the age of six and has now committed his long-term future to the club with a significant increase in his earnings.
He signed his first professional contract in 2017, but was fully integrated into the first team in the 2019-20 campaign, after he enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Wigan Athletic, where he won the club’s player of the season and the Players’ player of the season awards.
James previous deal was due to expire in 2028, but his new contract will now see him spend the peak of his years at the Stamford Bridge.
“I am over the moon to have extended my contract – Chelsea means so much to me”, the 26-year-old said.
“I have always said I want my peak years to be here, and I truly believe we have everything it takes to build on our previous successes.
I’m excited for the future under this ownership, Sporting Directors, Coach and all the staff, and hopefully we will lift many more trophies together over the coming years”, the Chelsea captain added.
James made his debut for Chelsea in September 2019 against Grimsby Town, scoring one and assisting two goals in a 7-1 win.
He was named captain three years ago and guided the club to the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup titles in 2025.
The England international also won the UEFA Champions League in 2020-21 season, as well as the UEFA Super Cup that year.
James has overcome recurrent injury worries in recent years to become a key part of the Chelsea team once more, which has also earned him this contract extension.
With his future now secure, focus will shift to finishing the season strongly with Chelsea, as they could still win the FA Cup and are vying to make top-four in the Premier League.
