Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear that Neymar must be fully fit to earn a place in Brazil national football team’s squad for the FIFA World Cup, after leaving the forward out of his latest selection.
As Brazil gear up for international friendlies against France national football team and Croatia national football team in the United States, Ancelotti opted to exclude Neymar due to ongoing fitness concerns.
The decision follows the forward’s recent absence for Santos, where he missed a match due to fatigue; ironically one Ancelotti had planned to attend as part of his evaluation process.
Despite being Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals, Neymar has struggled for consistency, having not featured for the national team since October 2023 after suffering a serious knee injury.
As the selection unfolded, Ancelotti delivered a firm but straightforward message regarding Neymar’s situation.
“Neymar can be at the World Cup if he’s 100 per cent,” revealed the gaffer.
“I didn’t call him up because he’s not 100 per cent. Neymar has to be training and playing.”
Meanwhile, Neymar responded publicly during an appearance at a Kings League event in Sao Paulo, expressing disappointment but maintaining focus on his recovery and future ambitions.
“I remain focused, day after day, training session after training session, match after match. We will achieve our goal. The dream continues,” Neymar said.
Looking ahead, Ancelotti’s squad also features fresh faces and returning talent.
Igor Thiago earns his first senior call-up, while teenage prospect Endrick makes his return to the national setup after nearly a year away.
As Brazil build momentum towards the World Cup, the spotlight remains firmly on Neymar’s fitness race.
The message from Ancelotti is clear: only peak condition will secure a place on football’s biggest stage.
