Leeds United head coach Daniel Farke has expressed confidence in his side’s chances as they look to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.
The Whites face Brentford on Saturday without a win in their last five league outings, which has seen them drop to 15th on the standings.
They have just 32 points after their first 30 league matches and are just three points above the drop zone with eight league games to go.
Speaking on Thursday as he spoke to the press ahead of the must-win encounter with Brentford, Farke was optimistic about his side’s chances of beating the drop this season.
“Always expect every team to fight until the end, to grab their chance to stay in the league. One of the seasons where you maybe need a few more points that previously when 32 might have been enough”, Farke revealed.
“Don’t expect it will happen again this season, we need to win at least six more points but might need one or two more. Six to eight points are needed, eight opportunities and want to do it.”
Leeds United have won only seven times this season, although their last victory came in the beginning of February when they narrowly edged out fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest.
They still have some tough games to go until the end of the campaign, with matches against Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton still to come in their final eight games of the season.
A win at Elland Road against Brentford would ease relegation fears, depending on results among the bottom three on the standings.
