Speaking from Zurich during a FIFA Council meeting, Infantino struck a confident tone, emphasizing stability despite ongoing uncertainty surrounding Iran’s involvement.
“FIFA is looking forward to all teams participating at the World Cup to compete in a spirit of fair play and mutual respect.
“We have a schedule. We will soon have the 48 competing teams confirmed, and we want the World Cup to go ahead as scheduled.”
As preparations build momentum, Iran’s situation remains a key talking point.
The nation is scheduled to play group-stage matches in the United States, including fixtures in Los Angeles and Seattle against New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt.

In response, Mehdi Taj, president of Iran’s football federation, has suggested relocating their matches away from the United States.
Instead, attention has shifted toward co-host nations Canada and Mexico as possible alternatives.
“We will be preparing for the World Cup. We will boycott the United States but not the World Cup,” said Taj.
Consequently, discussions are already underway between Iran’s federation and FIFA regarding potential adjustments.
Meanwhile, Mexico has signalled readiness to step in if required, with President Claudia Sheinbaum confirming the country’s willingness to host Iran’s group-stage fixtures.
