MLS Commissioner Don Garber is hoping Mohamed Salah would move to the Major League Soccer once he leaves Liverpool at the end of the season.
Salah,33, announced this week that he would end his nine-year stay at the Premier League champions once the current season ends, leading to speculations over his future.
While reports have emerged linking him with a move to the Saudi Pro League, the MLS could also be another option on the cards as several clubs would be happy to add the Egyptian to their ranks.
Speaking during an interview, Garber expressed admiration for Salah and would be glad if the winger chooses the MLS as his next destination.
“I couldn’t say that until he announced he was leaving Liverpool. But what a great player he would be in MLS. And I think we would provide him with a great platform”, Garber said.
French forward Antoine Griezmann recently agreed a deal with Orlando City, while Thomas Muller and Heung-Min Son also joined Lionel Messi and other top names in recent time.
Salah will end his nine-year spell at Liverpool, despite only signing a two-year contract extension after coming to a mutual agreement with the Reds.
Meanwhile, Salah is not the only player the MLS is scouting, with Brazilian midfielder Casemiro also high on their priority list.
The experienced midfielder will leave Manchester United once his contract runs out at the end of the season and has been linked with a move to several clubs.
“Obviously, if [Salah] ever decides to come to Major League Soccer, we’d welcome him with open arms. I’d say he should reach out to Leo [Messi] and reach out to Thomas Müller and see how happy they’ve been and how successful they’ve been and how much they’ve really embraced being in Major League Soccer”, Garber added.
While Salah’s future remains unclear for now, the Egyptian is expected to announce his next destination before the end of the season.
