Thomas Tuchel has played down comparisons with France after their eye-catching win over Brazil, insisting England remain firmly on track in their World Cup preparations.
While France’s victory sent a strong message among tournament contenders, England’s 1-1 draw against Uruguay offered a different narrative.
However, Tuchel is keeping perspective, emphasizing progress over perception as the Three Lions continue to build momentum.
“I don’t know. You cannot compare, you saw our line up and opponent, it’s just March,” he said.
“We’re happy with how we did our camp until now. I know it wasn’t the nicest watch on TV or as a spectator but I know who we played, maybe the best line-up of Uruguay with a lot of new guys on the pitch and we got a lot of things right.
“In most of the phases we got the things right we wanted to get right. We need these tests now to get to know each other better.
“We have time to be prepared. Do you think Brazil will not be prepared in June? I think they will. Once you arrive, you don’t think about March. We will be ready.”
Despite the contrasting results, Tuchel’s focus remains firmly on development.
By rotating his squad and handing opportunities to less-tested players, the England boss is prioritizing long-term cohesion over short-term headlines.
With key players set to return for the upcoming clash against Japan, England’s rhythm is expected to sharpen.
As the road to the World Cup gathers pace, Tuchel’s message is clear: ignore the early scorelines, trust the process, and peak when it matters most.
