Arsenal’s Gabriel injury against Southampton deepens the Gunners concerns

Arsenal’s injury troubles took another hit as Gabriel was forced off during their FA Cup defeat to Southampton, adding fresh concern for Mikel Arteta’s side at a crucial stage of the season.

As the contest wore on, the Brazilian defender went down in the 71st minute, signaling immediately for a change before being replaced by William Saliba.

Although he managed to walk off the pitch unaided, early signs suggested discomfort, with Gabriel later seen icing his knee on the bench.

In the aftermath, Arteta offered a cautious update, hinting that the situation may not be straightforward.

“I don’t know,” Arteta said of the issue. “I think he felt something. I don’t know exactly what it is. We’re going to have to assess him. But obviously when a player asks him to be substituted, it’s not good news.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal were already navigating a challenging injury list heading into the fixture.

Key players Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and Leandro Trossard were all absent, although Arteta revealed they were close to making a return.

Compounding matters further, Jurrien Timber, Eberechi Eze, and Piero Hincapie were also unavailable, leaving the squad stretched as they continue to compete on multiple fronts.

As the dust settles, Arsenal will now await further assessment on Gabriel, hoping the setback is not as serious as feared.

With important fixtures fast approaching, the Gunners must quickly regroup and find momentum despite the growing list of absentees.
