Harry Maguire has signed a new one-year contract extension at Manchester United, keeping him at the Premier League heavyweights until the end of the 2026-27 season.
The former captain joined the club from Leicester City back in 2019 in a deal worth £80 million, which remains a world record fee for a defender and his contract was previously set to expire at the end of the current season.
However, his recent improvements has now earned him an additional year at the club, where he will be keen on adding to his League Cup and FA Cup triumphs.
“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day”, Maguire said after signing the extension.
“I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.”
Maguire has made 266 appearances in seven years for Manchester United, scoring 17 goals.
The England defender was close to an exit back in 2023 after receiving criticism for poor performances, including being stripped from being captain.
However, he opted against an exit and chose to remain at the Red Devils and has enjoyed a remarkable improvement over the last 18 months of his career at the club.
Maguire has enjoyed a revival since the arrival of Carrick in January, starting every of the club’s Premier League games so far.

Manchester United will now turn their attention to extending the contract of young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, with an option of a five-year extension very close to being agreed.
