Kai Havertz believes Arsenal can go on to win several trophies following their hard-fought 1-0 win over Sporting CP in their Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday night.
The Gunners were second gear for most of the encounter and struggled to create much, but will now head into next week’s second leg encounter with a huge advantage.
The North London side had seen their quadruple hopes reduced to just two trophies after defeat in the EFL Cup final and also to Southampton in the FA Cup last Saturday.
However, they took a giant stride towards their first UEFA Champions League title after bouncing back to winning ways.
Speaking after the match, goalscorer Havertz is confident that the team will end their major trophy drought before the end of the season.
“It is a big turnaround for us because we lost the last two matches. So we wanted to get a turnaround today and we made that happened”, Havertz said.
“We stick together as a group, we have so much more to come this season. There are seven weeks to go, we can win big titles and we’re going to go for that.”
Havertz netted the only goal of the game as Arsenal sealed a 1-0 win in their first leg clash at Portugal on Tuesday night.
Both sides traded chances to open the scoring in a frantic 45 minutes spell, until the German forward latched on to a pass from Gabriel Martinelli before putting the ball in the back of the net.
“For me, the last two seasons, he’s the best keeper in the world. He has saved us so many times,” Havertz added.
Arsenal turn their attention to the Premier League this weekend when they will face Bournemouth, before their return leg against Sporting next week.
