Brighton’s Hurzeler sends strong message to Boscagli ahead Spurs’ clash

Fabian Hurzeler has delivered a firm but encouraging message to Olivier Boscagli ahead of Brighton and Hove Albion’s upcoming Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Fresh off a commanding 2-0 victory over Burnley, Boscagli turned in an assured performance at Turf Moor, stepping up when it mattered most.

The French defender, who joined on a free transfer from PSV last summer, has had limited opportunities this season but seized his moment with composure and quality.

Despite making just six starts from nine league appearances, Boscagli has remained patient in a squad where the centre-back pairing of Lewis Dunk and Jan Paul van Hecke has dominated selection.

However, with club captain Dunk serving the second of his suspension, the stage is once again set for Boscagli to feature against Spurs.

As Brighton build momentum heading into the weekend fixture, Hurzeler was clear about his expectations and mindset for players fighting for places.

“Players should be frustrated if they’re not playing. I want them to have expectations to play,” Hurzeler said.

“He knows our skipper is in a great shape. Lewis and JP have a good connection. Oli waited for his chance. He waits for his chance. Very patient.

“Right moment he’s there. He’s helped the team in the past. A lot of good performances when we needed him. Another great performance today and he built a really connection with JP.”

Carrying that momentum forward, the Brighton boss also highlighted the importance of squad depth and unity as the season unfolds.

He added: “Every player during the season will be important – team togetherness.

“Oli Boscagli is a good role model for that. He will have another chance next week [at Spurs].

“That’s a great thing for me as a coach. We are happy to have him. We know his quality. Congrats to him today.”

With confidence building and opportunities opening up, Boscagli now has another chance to stake his claim, this time on a bigger stage against Tottenham, as Brighton look to maintain their upward rhythm.
