Dominic Calvert-Lewin has praised the performance of Leeds United after their impressive 2-1 win at Manchester United in the Premier League on Monday night.
The Whites moved further away from the drop zone with only their eighth league win of the season, which put them six points above Tottenham Hotspur with only six games left to play.
The England international played a major role upfront and was also involved in a key decision in the game when Lisandro Martinez was sent off for a hair pull on him.
Speaking after the result, Calvert-Lewin was impressed with his side’s display as they recorded a win that would help their survival bid.
“It’s a massive result for us. We knew that coming into the game. We came here to win, that’s how we set up and we executed the game plan and came away with three points”, Calvert-Lewin said.
“It’s important we don’t read too much into the external noise and we continue to focus on what’s in front of us.”
Noah Okafor gave Leeds a dream start with the opener in the fifth minute of the encounter.
The Switzerland international doubled their advantage in the 29th minute as the visitors went into the halftime break ahead.
Martinez was then sent off in the 56th minute after a hair pull on Calvert-Lewin following an aerial challenge, giving Manchester United a mountain to climb back into the game.
Casemiro then pulled one back for the home side in the 69th minute, although they were unable to grab an equalizer as Leeds United snatched a crucial 2-1 win.
“It’s easy to come here and make history, but it doesn’t matter come the end of the season when the points tallies are in and that’s all we’re focused on”, Calvert-Lewin added.
Leeds United will continue their battle for survival when they face bottom-placed Wolves next weekend.
