Lookman hails Atletico Madrid’s elimination of Barcelona to reach Champions League semifinal

Ademola Lookman was impressed with the performance of Atletico Madrid as they progressed to the semifinal of the Champions League at the expense of Barcelona.

Los Rojiblancos recorded a 2-0 win in the first leg last week and despite a 2-1 defeat on Tuesday night, they advanced 3-2 on aggregate to reach their first UCL semifinal in nine years.

Lookman, who scored the goal that sent Atletico into the semifinals, described the feeling as ‘amazing’ and was very excited with his contribution in the clash.

“It’s amazing. I have to really say amazing amazing”, Lookman said after the match.

“Nights like this the atmosphere, the pressure, I think the occasion is great to be involved in for sure. I think pressure is what comes with, being at this stage in this competition and coming up against this type of teams who are amazing in the way they play and also play this type of football.”

Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres put Barcelona ahead at the Metropolitano as they equalled the tie on aggregate.

However, Super Eagles star Lookman pulled one back for Atletico in the first half, putting his side back ahead on the tie.

The match ended 2-1 in favour of Barcelona, but they fell short in their comeback as Atletico advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2017.

“Yeah it’s great, obviously the tempo in terms of the way the ball moves like you said and obviously playing your game and trying to enforce it on the game. Being with your teammates and fighting because moments like today were difficult but we stuck together and we got the result that we wanted in the end”, Lookman concluded.

Lookman and Atletico will now take on the winner of the last eight tie between Arsenal and Sporting later this month in the Champions League last four.
