Spurs’ Danso speaks out after racist abuse following Brighton’s stalemate

Kevin Danso has broken his silence after being subjected to racist abuse online following Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received.

In the aftermath of the match, Tottenham swiftly condemned the abuse in a strong statement, describing it as “vile, dehumanising racism.”

While the incident once again highlights ongoing issues within the game, Danso chose to shift the spotlight toward the unity and backing shown by fans and the wider football community.

“The abuse is unacceptable,” Danso told Sky Sports News.

“It doesn’t define me. Of course, it’s upsetting to see people have the right to be upset.

“I was upset for whatever reason, but I don’t think racism of any form, or discrimination of any form, has a place in football or in the world.”

As the situation unfolded, the defender emphasized that such behavior has no place in modern football, reinforcing the need for continued action against discrimination.

“So I think to have people revert to being racist, I think, is just unacceptable and it shouldn’t happen. The club have taken immediate action.”

Despite the negativity, Danso highlighted the importance of focusing on the positive response that followed, noting how messages of support have helped him navigate the moment.

“I’ve got support from various places and others. Just like to say, thank you. I’ve also seen the positive comments, you know, and that’s what it’s about.

“You know, football is about positivity, putting smiles on people’s faces, and yeah, I think you know, when stuff like that happens, it’s also important to talk about the positivity, like the support I got from the fans and the club.”

As football continues to tackle racism both on and off the pitch, Danso’s response serves as a reminder that while challenges remain, the collective voice against discrimination is growing stronger.
