Tottenham Hotspur’s Simons devastated after season-ending injury blow

Xavi Simons has been left reeling after a devastating injury brought his season to a sudden halt, dealing a crushing setback to Tottenham Hotspur’s survival push.

The Dutch playmaker suffered the injury during Spurs’ narrow 1-0 away victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, a result that had initially sparked hope.

However, midway through the second half, the momentum shifted as Simons went down clutching his knee following a collision with Hugo Bueno.

Although he attempted to shake it off and continue, the 23-year-old quickly collapsed again, prompting immediate medical attention before being stretchered off.

In the aftermath, fears of a serious knee injury were confirmed, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign and, crucially, the upcoming World Cup with Netherlands national football team.

“They say life can be cruel and today it feels that way. My season has come to an abrupt end and I’m just trying to process it,” Simons shared on his Instagram page.

“Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense.

“All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me, along with the World Cup.”

The timing could hardly be worse for Spurs, who are locked in a tense relegation battle.

Despite finally ending a long winless run, they remain under pressure as they chase down West Ham United in the fight to avoid the drop.

Simons’ absence further compounds the club’s injury crisis under Roberto De Zerbi, who has already been dealt blows with key players sidelined.

The loss of the creative midfielder removes a vital attacking outlet at a critical stage of the season.

Having shown glimpses of brilliance earlier in the campaign, including a standout strike against Brighton, Simons was beginning to find rhythm and influence. Now, that progress is abruptly paused.

Still, the young midfielder remains determined to stay mentally strong and support his teammates from the sidelines.

“It’ll take some time to find peace with this but I’ll continue to be the best team-mate I can be. I have no doubt that together we’ll win this fight.

“I’ll walk this path now, guided by faith, with strength, with resilience, with belief as I count down the days to getting back out there. Be patient with me.”

As the season enters its decisive run-in, Spurs must now dig even deeper, without one of their brightest sparks, while Simons begins the long road to recovery with both club and country ambitions temporarily on hold.
