Liverpool’s Van Dijk backs Mohamed Salah farewell despite injury

Virgil van Dijk has thrown his support behind Mohamed Salah, insisting the forward will receive a fitting farewell even as injury clouds his immediate future at Liverpool.

The Egyptian star was forced off during Liverpool’s recent victory over Crystal Palace after picking up a hamstring issue, leaving fans and teammates anxiously awaiting scan results.

With only a handful of matches remaining, concerns are growing that Salah may have already played his final game for the Reds.

Nevertheless, Van Dijk remained optimistic, highlighting Salah’s determination to return before the curtain falls on the season.

“I know he is doing everything in his power to be back on the pitch as soon as possible,” the skipper said.

As the campaign enters its final stretch, the timing of the injury adds another layer of uncertainty, especially given Salah’s significance to the club and the limited number of remaining fixtures at Anfield.

“If you get injured at this stage of the season, especially in the situation he is in, there is only two more home games left for him, it’s a combination of feelings that go through your mind.”

While speculation continues over whether Salah will feature again this season, Van Dijk refused to look too far ahead, instead focusing on the present and the player’s recovery.

“Hopefully he won’t be long. Maybe he’s back next week, maybe not. I have no idea.”

Crucially, the Liverpool captain made it clear that, regardless of the outcome, Salah’s contribution will not go unrecognized.

“He will get the send-off regardless. I don’t think that is the thing at this point, we shouldn’t think too far ahead.”

Drawing from Salah’s professionalism and resilience, Van Dijk also expressed confidence in his teammate’s ability to bounce back quickly.

“Knowing Mo, he is a quick healer and with the right people around him and let’s see.”

As Liverpool await clarity on the injury, one thing remains certain: whether on the pitch or from the stands, Salah’s legacy at Anfield is already secured, and his farewell, whenever it comes, will be nothing short of special.
