Fenerbahce have parted ways with head coach Domenico Tedesco in the aftermath of Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to rivals Galatasaray, which dashed their title hopes.
The Yellow Canaries had entered the clash hoping for a win to make the title race exciting heading into the final few games of the season, but the defeat has left them seven points behind the table-topping Galatasaray as their wait to end their league title drought continues.
This has led the club to take actions with Tedesco, who only replaced Jose Mourinho at the beginning of the campaign, sacked as a result.
“In line with the decisions taken at the meeting of our board of directors”, Fenerbahce said.
“We have parted ways with our Technical Director Domenico Tedesco and his technical staff.
“It has also been decided to part ways with our Sports Director Devin Özek and our Football Coordinator Berke Çelebi.
“We thank them for their contributions to our club and wish them success in their future careers.
“Our Assistant Coach Zeki Murat Göle will lead our team onto the field for the remaining matches of the season.”
Fenerbahce will now end the season without a major trophy while Istanbul rivals Galatasaray are on the brink of a fourth consecutive league title.
Tedesco guided the club to 19 wins, 10 draws and only two defeats in the Turkish Super Lig, although the second ultimately cost him his job.
The Yellow Canaries also suffered a shock defeat to Konyaspor in the Turkish Cup quarter-final last week.
Fenerbahce will now look to end the season by winning their remaining games to cement their position in second spot and book a Champions League qualification spot ahead of next season, although they would have to pass through the qualifying process.
