Kompany hails Kane’s influence ahead of Bayern Munich’s showdown with PSG

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has applauded the performances of Harry Kane at the club as they prepare to face Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal on Tuesday.

The Bundesliga champions visit the Parc des Princes to face the European champions as they hope to reach their first final since they went on to win the competition against the same opponent in 2020.

Kompany, who is suspended for the clash after picking up a caution in their quarter-final win against Real Madrid, believes the presence of Kane on the team gives his side a clear advantage.

“He was an incredible goal-scorer, a striker who could find a way to score goals from any position, whether it be headers, left foot, right foot, distance shots”, Kompany said.

“I think his finishing was never underestimated, and I think his leadership was never underestimated either because he has had that role for his team and for his country.

Obviously what we see a lot more is just his distribution and his workrate for the team, and his game intelligence in general.”

Kane has enjoyed a remarkable campaign so far, scoring 53 goals for club and country so far this season, with 45 of those goals coming for Bayern Munich.

The Bavarians have already defeated PSG this season, with Luis Diaz scoring twice when both sides met during the league-phase in a 2-1 win.

“To combine that side of his game with the numbers he has, you have to do the job to help the team progress and then still arrive in the box, so it is not an easy thing.

“That is something we have seen and been able to enjoy, and that was maybe underestimated at the time in England, but he is ageing like fine wine so I am just enjoying seeing that side of his game for us as well”, Kompany concluded.

The two European heavyweights meet over two legs in the UCL semifinal, with the winner advancing to face either Arsenal or Atletico Madrid in the final.
