McFarlane: Chelsea in good place ahead Nottingham Forest

Chelsea interim boss Calum McFarlane believes his side are regaining rhythm at the perfect moment, as they gear up for a crucial Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.

Heading into the final stretch of the season, the Blues have found a timely boost after booking their place in the FA Cup final, where they will face Manchester City at Wembley.

That victory over Leeds United has shifted the mood, and McFarlane insists the squad is now pushing forward with renewed belief.

“It [the mood within the squad] is really positive,” McFarlane said.

“Football is a results business, and when you’re losing, it feels like everything is the worst thing in the world. And when you win, it feels amazing.

“So, the mood has lifted after breaking the recent run of losses. I thought we performed really well against Leeds at times, which is another positive.”

As the momentum swings in their favour, Chelsea have wasted no time getting back to work.

After a short break, the squad regrouped at Cobham, sharpening focus ahead of another demanding test.

“They have trained in the last two days and been in a really good place – as have the staff and Cobham as a whole.

“Next up, however, is a tricky opponent. Forest arrive in strong form, battling relegation yet unbeaten in recent outings, making this encounter far from straightforward.

“I watched them last night and I’ve watched many of their games,” he added.

“They’re a really, really good side in really good form, and they have several top-quality players, some real threats that we have to be aware of.

“It’s another massive game, another big challenge, as every game in the Premier League is. But we’ll be ready and prepared for the game.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s own league form still needs a late surge.

Despite sitting eighth, they remain firmly in the race for European qualification, just a couple of points off sixth place.

With that in mind, McFarlane has urged his players to keep their focus locked in, taking the season one step at a time.

“We just have to win our games and not worry about anything else.

“If we make sure our performance levels are right, the results will come. So we have to focus only on ourselves, and then the next game, the next day and the next training session.”

All things considered, Chelsea are entering a decisive phase with momentum building.

Now, it’s about translating that confidence into results as the race for silverware and European spots heats up.
