Nottingham Forest head coach Vitor Pereira has applauded the contributions of Nottingham Forest’s players after their impressive 3-1 win at Chelsea on Monday.
The Tricky Trees took a major step towards Premier League safety when they defeated the Blues at Stamford Bridge to move six points clear of the drop zone with just three matches remaining.
Despite making several changes to the lineup, with one eye on Thursday’s crucial Europa League fixture at Aston Villa, Forest were never on the back foot in the clash as they came out victorious.
Reflecting on the result, Pereira, who joined the club earlier in the year as their fourth permanent manager of the season, has hailed the overall team’s effort in getting the result.
“I’m very happy for our players, they’re a special group as I’ve said before. They’re ambitious, united and resilient, and they have fire,” Pereira said.
“With our supporters today, we came here and managed to get another three points, but it’s important that we keep working until the end of the season and keep our future in our own hands.”
Taiwo Awoniyi, making his 100th appearance for the club opened the scoring inside two minutes to put Forest ahead. The Nigerian forward was then fouled by Malo Gusto inside the box, with Igor Jesus scoring the resulting penalty kick.
Cole Palmer missed a penalty kick in the first half, with Matz Sels producing a brilliant save to keep his side firmly ahead.
Then, Awoniyi added his second of the game in the second half, before Joao Pedro scored a late consolation for Chelsea.
“We don’t want to look at the results of the other teams but focus on our own and on our spirit”, Pereira concluded.
