Vincent Kompany did not hold back after Bayern Munich crashed out of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, with the Belgian coach strongly criticising the officiating during the semi-final clash.
Despite Bayern battling hard across both legs, PSG secured their place in the final with a 6-5 aggregate victory following a tense 1-1 draw in Munich.
However, controversy quickly took centre stage after a first-half incident involving Nuno Mendes.
The PSG defender, already on a yellow card, appeared fortunate to avoid a second booking after a handball incident.
Instead, referee Joao Pinheiro awarded the foul the other way for a disputed handball against Konrad Laimer.
As the dust settled, Kompany questioned the referee’s decision-making and suggested the official hesitated to dismiss Mendes.
“We have to look at some of the phases across the two games that were decided by the officials,” said Kompany.
“It’s never an excuse but it matters. If you look at both legs, too much went against us – but we tried against a fantastic PSG team.
“The second yellow card, I thought he was giving it and then he pulled out as he realised he’d already given him a yellow.
“So he didn’t want to send him off for that so he turned it around. I don’t see Laimer touch the ball with his hand, they say he did.”
Meanwhile, the Blues march on to a blockbuster final showdown against Arsenal on May 30, while Bayern are left to reflect on a tie filled with narrow margins and major controversy.
