Emery backs Aston Villa for success ahead of Liverpool clash

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has backed his side to overcome the threat of Liverpool and other clubs in their few remaining games this season.

Villa have just two league games left against Liverpool and Brighton and are currently in a battle to finish inside the top five, which automatically guarantees them a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

However, they can still qualify for the UCL if they finish outside the top five, but win the Europa League, where they face German side Freiburg in the final.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s clash against Liverpool, Emery has backed his side to go all out and claim success.

“It is the moment to enjoy, the moment to do the last effort for everybody,” Emery said.

“To try and get this way, each day, each session and match, trying to be excited and motivated like we are.”

Aston Villa were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw by Burnley in their last match and a win here would move them ahead of Liverpool into fourth place on the standings.

Villa also have a tough test against Brighton, who are also chasing an European finish, as the season enters its final stretch.

“It will be very difficult for us, very difficult for Liverpool, very difficult for Bournemouth and very difficult for Brighton (to reach the Champions League spots)”, Emery added.

“The team which achieves it is going to deserve it. Of course, hopefully, we will do it.”

Aston Villa will go on to face Freiburg in the Europa League final on May 20, offering them a chance to win their first major trophy since winning the EFL Cup in 1996.

The Emery factor also gives them a major edge, as the Spaniard has won four of the five finals he has managed in the competition.
