Marcos Senesi set for Bournemouth exit at the end of season

Premier League club Bournemouth have announced that Argentine defender Marcos Senesi will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

There had been uncertainty over the future of the 29-year-old heading into the final weeks of the campaign with no extension over his contract.

However, he has now announced he would be putting an end to his four-year stay on the South Coast as he prepares for the next chapter of his career.

“I’m proud of everything we achieved over the last four years and I’m grateful for the support the fans have always given me”, Senesi said in a statement after announcing his imminent departure.

“AFC Bournemouth will always hold a special place for me and I will look back at my time here with fond memories.

“For now, there are still two big games left of the season and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”

Senesi now joins head coach Andoni Iraola in leaving the club at the end of the season, with Bournemouth set for several changes heading into next season.

The 29-year-old joined the Cherries from Dutch club Feyenoord in 2022 and made 124 appearances for the club.

Senesi was a mainstay in the squad that achieved Bournemouth’s highest ever Premier League finish last season, when they finished ninth with 56 points, their highest points tally in a single English top flight campaign.

He has also played a key role this season, as they are currently in pole position to secure qualification for European football for the first time in the club’s history.

Bournemouth face Manchester City on Tuesday at the Vitality Stadium, and Senesi will be honoured for his contributions to the club after the match.

The Cherries will then conclude their campaign against Nottingham Forest on May 24, and could even qualify for the UEFA Champions League if Aston Villa win the Europa League and finish fifth on the Premier League standings.
