Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes says he is ready to live “the great dream” once again after securing his place in Brazil’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The midfielder has been included in Carlo Ancelotti’s final 26-man squad for this summer’s tournament in North America, marking another major milestone in his international career.
Guimaraes missed Brazil’s previous squad through injury, but his return comes as little surprise following another outstanding season for Newcastle and his growing influence within the national team setup.
This will be the 28-year-old’s second World Cup appearance after helping Brazil reach the quarter-finals during the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
Over the past four years, Guimaraes has established himself as one of Brazil’s most trusted midfielders, missing only a handful of international fixtures due to suspension or fitness concerns.
Former comments from Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti underlined exactly how highly the Newcastle captain is rated within the squad.
“Bruno is a very important player for the team, complete, he can play in different positions on the field.
“I like him a lot because he works hard, a very complete player, I don’t say that he is essential and cannot be dispensed with, but he is very important for the national team.”
Following confirmation of his selection, Guimaraes shared an emotional message on Instagram reflecting on his football journey from Rio de Janeiro to the world stage.
“Being present at another World Cup is the possibility of looking back and knowing that everything was worth it.
“Remembering every match I went to with my father and mother on the courts of Rio de Janeiro. The memory is vivid in this moment of emotion.
“The strength of my parents in letting me go live my dream in Sao Paulo, alone, with Audax. Later, living my dream at Athletico, Lyon, Newcastle and the National Team.
“I am happy and grateful to have lived each moment. I would do it all again. In the same way. Let’s, once again, live the great dream. Since I was little, young man, “I” said I would get there.”
Guimaraes heads into the tournament as one of Brazil’s key leaders and one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders, with Newcastle fans now set to watch their captain compete on football’s biggest stage once again.
