Valencia stun Barcelona in dramatic LaLiga finale

Valencia ended their 2025/26 La Liga campaign in spectacular fashion with a dramatic 3-1 comeback victory over champions Barcelona at a roaring Mestalla on Saturday night.

Although Barcelona had already wrapped up the league title, Hansi Flick’s men arrived looking to close out a dominant season with another statement win.

Instead, Valencia produced one of their finest performances of the campaign to stun the champions in front of their home fans.

Barcelona controlled possession for long spells during the opening half and looked comfortable early on despite several rotations in Flick’s starting lineup.

With summer international tournaments approaching, the German manager opted to rest a number of key players.

Valencia, however, remained disciplined throughout and constantly threatened on the counterattack.

The breakthrough eventually came in the 61st minute when Robert Lewandowski fired Barcelona into the lead, seemingly putting the visitors on course for victory.

But the game completely changed within minutes. Javi Guerra brought Valencia level with a calm finish that ignited the Mestalla crowd and shifted the momentum firmly in the hosts’ favour.

Barcelona suddenly looked vulnerable defensively as Valencia intensified the pressure.

Luis Rioja then completed the turnaround midway through the second half with a clinical strike to send the stadium into celebration mode.

Deep into stoppage time, Guido Rodríguez added Valencia’s third goal to seal a memorable night for the home side and hand Barcelona a disappointing end to an otherwise outstanding league season.

Despite the defeat, Barcelona still finish the campaign as deserved La Liga champions after an impressive domestic run under Flick in his first full season in charge.

However, the result exposed areas the club may look to strengthen during the summer transfer window.

For Valencia, the victory provides the perfect ending to a difficult season, with the club securing safety and signing off with a major statement result against the Spanish champions.

Attention will now quickly shift toward summer rebuild plans and upcoming international competitions as both clubs prepare for a new chapter ahead of the 2026/27 season.
