Tomas Soucek has expressed disappointment over West Ham United’s relegation from the Premier League and has backed them for an immediate return next season.
West Ham’s 14-year stay in the Premier League ended on Sunday as they suffered the drop to the Championship, despite recording a 3-0 win over Leeds United.
The Hammers needed to win their clash and hoped Everton defeat Tottenham Hotspur to retain their top flight status, but Spurs secured a 1-0 win ultimately sealing their fate.
They now join Burnley and Wolves as the three relegated teams this season, with Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Hull City sealing promotion.
“This is one of the hardest days of my football career”, Soucek said in a statement posted on his X account.
“I’m devastated for our fans, for everyone at the club and for what this means after 7 years in the club and in the Premier League.
“You deserved better from us. Thank you for standing with us even in the toughest moments.”
Soucek joined West Ham United in 2020 initially on loan from Slavia Prague and has already 284 appearances for the club, scoring 47 goals.
The 31-year-old was also part of the team that won the UEFA Conference League during the 2022-23 season and will now be eyeing an immediate return to the Premier League with the Hammers next season.
“I truly believe the West Ham family will stay united and loyal through this difficult time, just as you always have”, Soucek added.
“Now it’s on us to respond the right way, work harder than ever and fight to bring West Ham back where it belongs.”
