Bournemouth forward Rayan has described his inclusion in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad as a dream come true after completing one of the most remarkable rises in world football this season.
The 19-year-old attacker has emerged as one of Brazil’s brightest young talents following an impressive start to life in the Premier League.
His performances for Bournemouth quickly caught the attention of head coach Carlo Ancelotti, earning him a place in the Selecao squad for the global showpiece.
After registering five goals and two assists in just 14 appearances for the Cherries, Rayan now finds himself preparing for the biggest stage in football.
Speaking during Brazil’s training camp, the teenager admitted that hearing his name included in the World Cup squad was a moment he will never forget.
“It’s a moment of happiness and a moment to enjoy what I’m living right now,” he said.
“Playing in a World Cup at 19 years old is for very few people. Hearing my name on the list was a moment of happiness, not only for me but for my family as well.”
The youngster also reflected on his journey from humble beginnings to representing one of football’s greatest nations on the world stage.
“For a boy who came from the favela, to be playing in a World Cup… I’m very happy. Now it’s about enjoying it and bringing the sixth World Cup to Brazil.”
Despite his rapid rise, Rayan revealed he has received valuable support from experienced members of the Brazil squad.
The Bournemouth forward highlighted the influence of veteran duo Casemiro and Danilo, who have taken it upon themselves to guide both him and fellow teenage star Endrick through their first major tournament experience.
“Casemiro and Danilo always talk to me and Endrick because we are the youngest players in the squad,” he explained.
“We are 19 years old and still have a lot to work on and a lot to learn.”
He also praised Casemiro’s leadership qualities within the dressing room.
“They always tell us to go onto the pitch and play freely, while understanding the weight of representing Brazil. Casemiro is a great leader for us.”
One of Rayan’s biggest strengths is his versatility across the frontline, something he believes could prove crucial during the tournament.
The teenager insists he is comfortable operating anywhere in attack and is prepared to fill whatever role is required by Ancelotti.
“We never had a conversation about a preferred position, but I think he knows I can play in all three positions up front”, he said. “I can play on the right wing, as a centre-forward or on the left wing.”
Competition for attacking places remains fierce within Brazil’s squad, but Rayan is focused on continuing his development and making the most of any opportunities that come his way.
“There is a lot of competition in attack, but as I always say, it’s about working hard, giving my best and, when the opportunity comes, doing what I do best – scoring goals and providing assists.”
Rayan’s rapid rise from promising youngster to World Cup participant represents another major success story for Bournemouth.
The Cherries appear to have secured one of the most exciting young attacking talents in European football, and his inclusion in Brazil’s World Cup squad only strengthens that belief.
Now, with the eyes of the football world watching, Rayan has the chance to complete an extraordinary breakthrough season by helping Brazil chase a record-extending sixth World Cup title.
