Meslier leaves Leeds United after six-year Elland Road journey

Leeds United have officially confirmed that goalkeeper Illan Meslier will depart the club this summer when his contract expires at Elland Road, bringing an end to a memorable spell in West Yorkshire.

The French shot-stopper leaves after playing a significant role in one of the club’s most transformative periods in recent history, helping Leeds secure promotion to the Premier League on two separate occasions.

Meslier’s exit comes after a difficult 2025/26 campaign in which he failed to make a Premier League appearance, having fallen down the pecking order under manager Daniel Farke.

Despite his absence from first-team action last season, the 25-year-old leaves with a strong legacy after establishing himself as one of the club’s most reliable performers during his time between the posts.

Since making his debut in January 2022, Meslier went on to feature 215 times for Leeds United, recording an impressive 72 clean sheets across all competitions.

His performances earned widespread praise during his early years at the club, culminating in him being named Leeds United’s Young Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season.

Meslier was a key figure in Leeds’ promotion successes and became a familiar presence for supporters throughout several pivotal campaigns.

While his final season did not unfold as planned, his contribution to the club’s recent achievements remains undeniable.

As Leeds prepare for a new chapter, Meslier now begins the search for the next destination in his career after closing the curtain on a significant spell at Elland Road.

With Meslier departing on a free transfer, Leeds will continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new season, while the former France youth international is expected to attract interest from clubs across Europe seeking an experienced goalkeeper still entering his prime years.
