Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker has expressed confidence in his side’s quality ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup opener against Morocco on Saturday.
The five-time champions begin their quest for a sixth title and a first since 2002 when they face the African champions in their group C opening match this weekend.
Brazil reached the quarterfinals in 2022, but were sent packing from the tournament by Croatia on penalties.
However, they will be buoyed by the return of record goalscorer Neymar, who was included in the 26-man squad by Carlo Ancelotti.
Speaking ahead of the clash against Morocco, Alisson believes his side can go all the way to the final and win their sixth tournament.
“What really matters is the condition you are in at the first game. We are ready”, Alisson said.
“This last cycle was hard; we felt it deeply. But everything started to get better once Ancelotti arrived. He has a very strong presence in the group and gives us tranquillity to work.”
Alisson has battled with injuries in recent months which also ruled him out of action with Liverpool, but he is expected to return as Brazil’s first-choice goalkeeper for the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Brazil will be without defender Wesley, who was ruled out of the tournament after suffering an injury in the 2-1 win over Egypt ahead of the tournament and has since been replaced by Ederson.
Alisson, though believes his side must work on improving their defence ahead of the Mexico clash.
“Some of those goals could have been avoided. We are working on it, because the World Cup is a short tournament. We know we will always have chances to score because of the quality of the team”, Alisson continued.
Brazil will also face Scotland in their group, as well as Haiti, as they hope to seal progress to the next round of the competition.
