Eberechi Eze says England’s confidence remains intact despite a frustrating 0-0 draw with Ghana, insisting the result has not changed the team’s approach or ambition at the World Cup.
Thomas Tuchel’s side were unable to break through a determined Ghana defence in Boston, settling for another draw in a major tournament campaign where patience and consistency have become key themes.
The result, however, leaves England in a strong position. The point almost guarantees progression to the last 32, while victory against Panama in their final group match would secure top spot if Ghana fail to better their result against Croatia.
For Eze, there is no panic inside the England camp. The midfielder believes the team’s mindset remains focused on improvement and delivering results when it matters most.
“No, we set out to win anyway, so it changes nothing for us, the mentality is still the same, so we’re focusing on doing what we need to win,” said Eze.
“I think that’s the main thing. It’s a long journey, you can’t be too high, you can’t be too low, you’ve got to be trusting what you’re doing in the present moment.
“So, we’re trying to do that, we’re trying to enjoy it as much as we can, and being confident of what’s to come.”
England dominated large portions of the match but struggled to find the final touch needed to overcome Ghana’s organised defensive structure.
The African side remained compact and disciplined, limiting clear opportunities throughout the contest.
Despite the lack of goals, Tuchel’s team showed defensive stability and maintained control of their qualification situation.
The challenge now is converting that control into more attacking efficiency in their final group fixture.
Eze believes the long nature of the tournament means teams must avoid emotional swings and remain committed to the process.
The England midfielder highlighted the importance of staying balanced, trusting the preparation and maintaining confidence as the competition moves deeper.
With qualification almost secured, England can now turn their attention towards finishing the group strongly and building momentum heading into the knockout stages.
