Former Manchester United defender Antonio Valencia has backed his former side to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid this summer.
The Red Devils are expected to be very busy this summer with both outgoings and incomings as they plan for a fresh beginning under Michael Carrick next season.
While a deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson is very close, Man United are also exploring the possibility of signing Mateus Fernandes from relegated West Ham United, with an agreement reportedly close.
Valencia, who featured for the club between 2009 and 2019, believes Alexander-Arnold will be a great addition to the squad ahead of next season.
“Trent is a player I like a lot. He has a very good right foot, he crosses well, and he is a player who defends well”, Valencia retorted.
“He would be very good for Manchester United. He knows the Premier League. He knows what it means to win the Champions League and the Premier League. He is a passionate player, and I would like to see him at Manchester United.”
The former Liverpool defender struggled in his debut campaign at Real Madrid last season after leaving England on a free transfer.
His struggles were epitomized by his absence from Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 World Cup tournament.
The 27-year-old could even face more competition for his place in the team next season, with new Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho aiming to bring in Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan.
The potential arrival of the Dutch defender would further reduce his playing time at the club, which has cast doubts over his long-tern future.
“Hopefully it could happen, because we need players like that at Old Trafford. To play at that stadium, you need people with a lot of personality”, Valencia concluded.
Manchester United will begin their 2026-27 Premier League season against newly promoted Hull City.
