Ex-Premier League winner Begovic predicts Bruno Guimaraes’ Arsenal move

Former Premier League goalkeeper Asmir Begovic believes Arsenal are the most likely destination for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, insisting a move to the Emirates Stadium feels “inevitable” if the Gunners decide to push ahead with their interest.

Speaking on Good Morning Transfers on Sky Sports News, Begovic shared his view on one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer, suggesting the Brazilian international possesses exactly the qualities Arsenal need as they prepare to defend their Premier League title and challenge for European glory.

Guimaraes has established himself as one of the league’s finest midfielders since arriving at Newcastle, combining technical brilliance with relentless work rate, leadership and creativity.

Those attributes have consistently attracted attention from Europe’s elite clubs, with Arsenal regularly linked to the Brazilian in recent transfer windows.

For Begovic, however, the transfer now appears to be more a question of when than if.

After ending their long wait for the Premier League title, Arsenal are determined to strengthen rather than stand still.

Mikel Arteta has repeatedly spoken about raising standards within the squad, knowing that defending the league title and competing for the UEFA Champions League requires exceptional depth across every position.

Midfield remains one of the areas where Arsenal could add another world-class option. Guimaraes fits the profile perfectly.

The Newcastle star offers composure in possession, defensive intelligence, progressive passing and the leadership qualities that define elite midfielders.

His versatility would also provide Arteta with tactical flexibility throughout a demanding campaign.

For many observers, adding a player of Guimaraes’ calibre would immediately strengthen one of the Premier League’s strongest squads.

Begovic believes Arsenal’s ambitions and the Brazilian’s desire to compete for the biggest trophies make the potential transfer a logical step.

The former goalkeeper suggested the Brazilian’s hunger to test himself at the highest level aligns perfectly with Arsenal’s current project.

“I can only see this ending one way – and that’s with Bruno Guimaraes in Arsenal colours. It’s inevitable.”

He continued by explaining why the opportunity could prove difficult for any player to reject.

“Bruno wants to challenge himself. He wants to play at the highest level, he wants to play in the Champions League, so I think when the Premier League champions come calling [there is only going to be one outcome] and one option here.”

Begovic also believes Guimaraes would represent far more than another high-profile arrival.

Instead, he views the Brazilian as the type of signing capable of helping Arsenal evolve into an even stronger force across multiple competitions.

“I think Bruno Guimareas would be that kind of statement signing [for Arsenal] in the heart of that midfield to continue to push that team to higher levels.”

The former Bosnia and Herzegovina international also highlighted Arsenal’s long-term objectives under Arteta.

“Arsenal’s ambitions are not just Premier League – the ambition will be Champions League and winning multiple trophies and to go from there.

“In order to that, you need the possible squad and I think Bruno coming in to the heart of that midfield there will add a different layer to that.”

While no agreement has been announced between Arsenal and Newcastle, Begovic’s comments will only fuel speculation surrounding one of the summer’s most talked-about transfer stories.

The Magpies remain determined to retain one of their most influential players, but Arsenal continue to be linked with midfield reinforcements capable of elevating an already championship-winning squad.

Whether the move eventually materialises remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Bruno Guimarães continues to be viewed as one of the Premier League’s elite midfielders.

If Arsenal are serious about building a dynasty under Arteta, securing a player of his quality would undoubtedly send another powerful message to both their domestic rivals and the rest of Europe.
