Kasey Palmer reveals Wilshere factor behind Luton Town permanent move

Kasey Palmer has revealed that Jack Wilshere’s influence was a major factor behind his decision to turn his Luton Town loan into a permanent move.

The midfielder spent the second half of last season at Kenilworth Road, helping Luton finish the League One campaign strongly.

His performances were enough to convince the club to make the move permanent this summer.

For Palmer, however, the decision was about more than football. He already knew he wanted to stay.

“It’s something I always wanted to do when I was here on loan,” Palmer told Sky Sports. “The main thing for me in the summer was to get the deal done, sign permanently and try to get promoted this season.”

The midfielder believes Luton offers the right environment for him to flourish, particularly under Wilshere’s tactical approach.

“I suit the way the manager wants the players to play and the direction the club is going in. I feel like we can achieve good things this season.”

Wilshere’s transition from elite midfielder to coach has quickly caught Palmer’s attention.

Having enjoyed a distinguished playing career, including at Arsenal and with England, Wilshere is now beginning to make his mark from the dugout.

Palmer says the former midfielder’s experience makes his instructions particularly easy to understand and respect.

“He’s a midfielder who had a top career, so it’s easy listening to him. He’s given me little tips and you automatically have that respect for him, knowing what he’s achieved and the ability he has.”

Palmer went even further when assessing Wilshere’s potential as a coach.

“He’s going to go on to be a top coach. When he’s talking, you automatically respect what he wants to do.”

That relationship could prove crucial as Luton attempt to turn their strong finish last season into a promotion push.

Luton finished the previous campaign with momentum but ultimately fell short of the League One play-offs.

Palmer was one of the standout contributors, scoring eight goals after arriving on loan.

Despite missing out on the top-seven places, he believes Luton were building towards something special.

“We fell short a little bit last season, but if the season had gone on for a couple more games, I think we would have got into the play-offs and had momentum,” he said.

Now, Palmer wants Luton to carry that momentum into the new campaign rather than start from scratch.

“If we start the season how we ended the second half of last season, then we’ll be in a good place come May.”

There is little attempt from Palmer to hide Luton’s ambition.

Promotion is the target, and the midfielder accepts that expectation comes with playing for a club determined to return to the Championship.

“You can’t really hide behind [the expectation]. Obviously, last year everyone expected or wanted the club to get promoted.

“It didn’t happen and I think it’s obviously the same goal and the same ambition from within the squad and the staff. The club want to get promoted.”

Palmer believes the ingredients are already in place.

But he knows having a talented squad will count for little unless Luton can produce consistently when it matters most.

“I think we’ve got the players and the team to do it, but it’s about producing that on the pitch consistently to be able to get over the line.”

The permanent move gives Palmer the chance to play a central role in Luton’s promotion campaign, while Wilshere gets another opportunity to demonstrate his coaching potential.

There is belief inside the squad. There is ambition from the club. And Palmer has already made his choice clear.

Now Luton must turn belief into results — and results into promotion.
