Rangers manager Phillipe Clement has expressed excitement after his side’s 4-1 thrashing of French side Nice in Thursday’s Europa League match.
Clement who has been under pressure due to Rangers inconsistency needed a statement victory to ease tensions.
They scored three times in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into half time and ended the match on a high with an impressive 4-1 victory.
“I think if we look at the opponent, yes, because of their strength, I think in Malmo (2-0) against FCSB (4-0), we had also really, really big performances.
“But knowing the level of Nice, this is probably the best performance this season. But the season is still young in a way. We talked a lot about that, about young squad, a lot of new players in”, Clement said.
Rangers are up to eighth on the standings with ten points from their opening five games. They are now unbeaten in seven consecutive away matches under the Belgian coach and only the wastefulness of their attackers prevented them from scoring more.
“We still had really good chances we didn’t finish but I saw a really impressive performance. You saw the team on the pitch being compact all the time, using the spaces and the ball in the right way”, the Belgian coach added.
“If you see how many new players were on the pitch, we are starting to see everything gelling together. That’s what we want, that’s what we’re working hard with the staff to achieve.”
Rangers are next in action in the Scottish Premier League when they face off against St. Johnstone on Sunday.
