Spalletti praises Juventus attitude after late Celta Vigo victory

Juventus snatched a dramatic late victory over Celta Vigo in the Europa League as Randal Kolo Muani delivered the decisive goal in a 2-1 win, with head coach Luciano Spalletti praising his players’ willingness to take risks.

The Italian side left Galicia with all three points after a hard-fought contest that demanded greater urgency and attacking intent, particularly after a sluggish opening half.

Nick Woltemade also found the net for Juventus, helping the visitors stay in contention before Kolo Muani struck late to settle the encounter and secure a valuable European result.

Despite the victory, Spalletti admitted Juventus had struggled to impose themselves during the first half, allowing Celta Vigo too much time and space to organise their defensive structure.

Speaking to the press after the match, the Juventus coach acknowledged that his team needed to improve their tempo and make quicker decisions if they wanted to break down their opponents.

“In the first half we were a bit slow in everything we did. We kept giving them too much time to get organised. We had to try to win the match, and I like that, taking risks is part and parcel of modern football. I like the lads’ attitude, they showed it again this evening.”

Spalletti’s comments highlighted the balance he expects from his team: greater speed in possession, a willingness to attack and the courage to commit players forward when chasing a result.

For Juventus, the late winner was a reward for refusing to settle, with Kolo Muani producing the decisive moment when the match appeared to be heading towards a tense conclusion.

Woltemade’s contribution was equally important, as his goal helped keep the Italian side firmly in the contest and gave them the platform to pursue victory.

The result also underlined the importance of Juventus’ attacking depth, with the team finding a way to secure the win despite their difficulties in the opening period.

Spalletti’s willingness to embrace risk reflects the demands of modern European football, where patience alone is not always enough to unlock well-organised opponents. Teams must be prepared to accelerate the tempo, commit bodies forward and create opportunities even when doing so leaves them vulnerable to counterattacks.

However, the Juventus coach will also expect his players to address the slow start that allowed Celta Vigo to settle into the game. A stronger opening performance would help the Italian side avoid unnecessary pressure in their remaining European fixtures.

Kolo Muani’s late intervention ultimately ensured Juventus left Spain with a 2-1 victory, while Woltemade’s goal added another positive to their attacking display.

For Spalletti, the outcome offered encouragement not only because of the result but also because his players continued to push for a winner rather than accept a draw.

Juventus will now look to build on the European triumph, with the manager’s message clear: intensity, initiative and a willingness to take calculated risks will remain central to the team’s ambitions.
