Real Madrid’s Mourinho backs Vinicius amid ban, praises Arda Guler

Jose Mourinho has praised Arda Guler’s potential and defended Vinicius Jr following the confirmation of the Brazilian forward’s four-game ban, while insisting he is satisfied with his current squad ahead of the January transfer window.

The Portuguese manager spoke highly of Güler’s versatility, describing the Turkish midfielder as a talented player whose development is still a work in progress. Mourinho believes the youngster possesses the qualities to operate in multiple positions, making him a valuable option for his team.

“Arda Güler is a highly talented player and, fortunately, he is not yet a finished product.

“In my view, Arda has the attributes to play in various positions. I am so happy with him.”

Mourinho’s comments underline his confidence in Güler’s ability to continue improving and contribute in different tactical roles. Rather than viewing the midfielder as a finished article, the coach appears encouraged by the room he still has to develop his game.

The former Real Madrid manager also addressed Vinicius Jr’s four-game suspension, expressing relief that the punishment had not been extended further.

Mourinho suggested he had feared additional matches could be added to the sanction, but he was pleased with the final outcome. He also offered a strong personal defence of the Brazilian, highlighting their close relationship and the forward’s ability to maintain a positive attitude despite difficult circumstances.

“I’m actually pleased, because I thought there might be some hidden agenda to tack on an extra game or two!

“Vinicius is a fantastic guy, it’s easy to have a good relationship with him. I spend a few minutes alone with him every single day.

“I value him tremendously because he always manages to get by, to survive, with a smile on his face.

Mourinho’s remarks went beyond football, with the manager suggesting that Vinicius has shown considerable loyalty to Real Madrid despite the challenges he has faced.

The Brazilian has frequently attracted attention for incidents involving opposition supporters and controversies on the pitch. Mourinho’s comments reflected his view that the forward’s continued commitment to the Spanish giants deserves recognition.

“If I was Vini Jr, I probably wouldn’t still be here. I would have PUSHED for a move to a country where I’d be respected.

“But out of loyalty to Real Madrid and love for the club, he stayed.

“He believes things can get better, and he keeps that smile.

The manager’s defence presents Vinicius as a player determined to remain at Real Madrid in the hope that circumstances will improve. His comments also suggest that Mourinho believes the forward’s attachment to the club has played a significant role in his decision to stay.

Meanwhile, Mourinho has dismissed suggestions that he is looking to strengthen his squad when the January transfer window opens.

Despite the challenges that could emerge during the second half of the campaign, the Portuguese tactician insists he is comfortable with the players currently available to him.

“I am not asking for any new signings in January. I am happy with the squad I have.”

The statement signals Mourinho’s willingness to work with his existing options rather than push for reinforcements midway through the season.

With Güler continuing his development, Vinicius facing the consequences of his suspension and the January window approaching, Mourinho’s latest comments offer a glimpse into his priorities: nurturing young talent, supporting his players and maintaining confidence in the squad at his disposal.
