Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich have been handed a huge boost ahead of Friday’s showdown against RB Leipzig as top scorer Harry Kane looks set to make his return from injury.
Kane has been out on the sidelines since sustaining a thigh injury in November’s Der Klassiker against arch rivals Borussia Dortmund.
The Bavarians obviously missed their talisman against Mainz last week as they struggled to generate end product in the final third. And without the golden touch of Kane, Bayern went on to suffer their first Bundesliga defeat of the campaign.
Speaking ahead of Bayern’s game against Leipzig at the Allianz Arena, Kompany hinted at the potential return of the Bundesliga top scorer as the Bavarians look to return to winning ways.
“I won’t say whether he’ll start or not. The final training session is still important today. If everything goes well, he’ll definitely play a part tomorrow,” the Belgian told reporters.
“We said previously that we couldn’t replace Harry Kane like-for-like. Harry has this incredible sense of where he needs to be in the box.”
“He’s one of the best in the world in the box, that’s where he makes the difference. There aren’t many players who can do that.”
Kompany’s Bayern had to do without key players like Alphonso Davies, Joao Palhinha, Serge Gnabry and Manuel Neuer during the Mainz defeat. The Bavarian boss was delighted to see the likes of Kane and Davies return to the training ground.
“If things go as well on Friday as they did in training yesterday, we’ll be in good shape,” he said.
