Thiago Motta: Juventus “can do better” after 12th draw in Serie A

Juventus head coach Thiago Motta believes the Bianconeri can do much better than they displayed in their 1-1 draw against city rivals Torino on Saturday.

Motta’s Juve were held to yet another draw at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, marking their 12th from 19 Serie A matches this season. In their last seven league games, Juventus have managed just one win, with the remaining six matches ending all square.

Kenan Yildiz’s 8th minute strike put the Old Lady in front before Nikola Vlasic’s first half stoppage-time equalizer drew the game level. This result leaves Juventus in fifth place, trailing Serie A leaders Napoli by 11 points.

Speaking after the game, Motta expressed frustration after watching his charges slump to yet another draw.

“We started well, but after taking the lead we dropped too deep, allowing them to create chances. We could have been more aggressive or avoided letting them reach that dangerous area,” Motta told reporters.

“We can do better from the point of view of aggressiveness. We didn’t finish in the right way to win the game. We [have] talked about this situation.

“Definitely too many draws, especially after leading games. With a young squad and some injuries. Never an excuse, we’ve lost only two matches in all competitions.”

Juventus desperately need to start turning these draws to victories but their fixture list for the remainder of January will not make matters any easier for them. Next up for the Bianconeri is a trip to Bergamo where they will face second-placed Atalanta. They then welcome AC Milan to the Allianz Stadium, before traveling to Naples to face Serie A leaders Napoli.
